Volkswagen Golf RepairA Golf that loses coolant needs more than another top-up. On some engines, an oil leak nearby is what damages the water-pump seal in the first place. We repair connected problems like these at Precision Auto Care in San Leandro, with engine service for gasoline Golf models, including the GTI and Golf R.

Our work includes scheduled maintenance and repairs for a new warning or change in the way the car drives. We match parts and fluids to your Golf's engine and transmission, including differences between a manual gearbox and an automatic.

Brake Replacement

Is it time for new brakes? Are you hearing any squeaking or screeching coming from your car? It may be just your brake pads, or you might need a complete brake replacement. Just bring your car in or have it towed to our shop and we’ll take a look.

Major Tune-Up

We change engine oil and spark plugs using the specifications for your gasoline Golf's engine. We also check belts, hoses and tires, and rotate the tires when their sizes and arrangement allow it. If your Golf is misfiring or losing coolant, we investigate that problem too.

Brake Replacement

We measure a Golf's brake discs as well as checking their surfaces. A disc can look smooth through the wheel and still be worn too thin to use. We inspect pads and rotors and replace components that have reached their limits. The remaining disc thickness is needed to absorb heat during braking.

COOLANT LEAKS AROUND THE WATER PUMP

On affected 2008-2013 Golfs with the 2.0-liter CCTA or CBFA engine, engine oil can swell the water-pump gasket and cause it to leak coolant. In that situation, a wet water-pump housing is only part of the repair. The oil reaching it needs to be stopped too. We repair engine and cooling leaks, including the connected seals when this failure is present. Leaving the oil leak active exposes the new gasket to the same damage.

CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT FAULTS ON AFFECTED GTIS

On certain 2008-2015 GTIs with a 2.0-liter CCTA or CBFA engine, damage in the camshaft-adjustment mechanism can cause rough running and a check-engine light. A small screen can break apart and lodge in the mechanism that controls camshaft timing. We diagnose and repair these camshaft-adjustment faults. The intake camshaft adjuster is serviced with the camshaft, so damage to the adjuster can mean replacing that assembly.

CLUTCH AND TRANSMISSION REPAIRS

You select Drive, but an automatic Golf takes a moment to move. Low fluid can delay the pressure needed to engage the transmission. We diagnose the delay and repair fluid leaks, using the fluid specified for your gearbox. For a manual Golf, our clutch repair includes the release mechanism as well as the friction parts. The clutch must grip once your foot comes off the pedal. A sticking release component can hold it partly disengaged even when the disc still has lining left.

ENGINE OIL LEAKS

Oil can travel down an engine before it reaches the driveway. The lowest wet part may be below the leaking seal, so we trace the oil back to its source. We also check the areas it has reached. Oil dripping onto a hot exhaust surface can produce a burning smell without leaving a large puddle.

AIR CONDITIONING THAT LOSES ITS COOLING

The Golf cools again after an A/C recharge, then the vents gradually turn warm. If refrigerant is escaping, the refill has restored cooling temporarily while the leak remains open. Our A/C service includes finding and repairing leaks before restoring the specified charge. We use the refrigerant type and amount specified for the system. Too much refrigerant can reduce cooling.
