5K MILES
This first tune-up is one of the ones that car owners skip most often, but that’s not really a good idea. A typical tune-up includes replacing the spark plugs, an oil change, tire rotation, changing filters, and more. While this tune-up is likely to be less involved than future tune-ups, it’s a good way to catch any problems with your vehicle early, and while it’s still under warranty and easy to get the problems fixed. This tune-up also helps set the tone for the rest of your time with this vehicle. Good maintenance practices can be hard to maintain, but getting an early tune-up will help keep you in the habit. Plus, you’ll probably notice the performance differences of having a routine tune-up, which makes it more likely that you’ll remember to schedule future tune-ups when your car starts acting like it needs another.
15K MILES
This tune-up is more likely to have more issues to address than the first, but it’s still probably going to be mostly routine items like an oil change, checking cabin filters, and rotating the tires. Your mechanic will also check tire pressure, reset the tire pressure monitoring system, and make sure you aren’t getting any abnormal wear on your tire tread. In addition, your mechanic will check fluid levels and quality in several different systems, and top up anything that looks low. They’ll check for leaks if there are any signs of a problem. Additionally, your engine belts will be inspected for wear, and the mechanic will check for any bulletins or recalls from the vehicle manufacturer.
30K MILES
The 30k mile tune-up has all the same services from the previous two, including an oil change, checking engine belts, checking spark plugs, a tire rotation, and more. Your mechanic will also likely check on your brakes, but in most cases, this is just a precaution and no additional brake work will be necessary. Like before, your mechanic will also check to make sure there aren’t any repair bulletins or recalls for your specific make and model.

60K MILES
At 60k miles it’s a little more likely that there will be something wrong with your vehicle, and the tune-up service gets a little more intensive to help make sure your mechanic can catch any subtle problems. This service includes everything from the previous tune-ups, plus checking timing belts, horn operation, looking at your vehicle’s wiring, a full brake inspection, and more. Most of the time these checks are routine and most of the maintenance done is the oil change and topping up any fluid reservoirs that might need it. However, because this is often around the time that a vehicle can start having problems it’s one of the more important tune-ups you can get.

100K MILES
This tune-up, and any subsequent tune-ups you get, will be more thorough than previous ones because your vehicle has seen more wear and tear and is more likely to develop the occasional problem. Fluids, filters, belts, and boots are all checked during this tune-up, as well as electrical systems, brakes, spark plugs, and more. Your mechanic will also check on your wiring, suspension, and steering systems to make sure they’re working the way they should. Now that you know what happens during a tune-up it’s probably a lot easier to see why they’re important and why it’s important for you to get one. If you’re due for a tune-up or want to schedule an overdue tune-up, contact Precision Auto Care. We’ll b be happy to give your vehicle a once over and make sure everything is in good working condition.
