Is it time for new brakes? Are you hearing any squeaking or screeching coming from your car? It may be just your brake pads, or you might need a complete brake replacement. Just bring your car in or have it towed to our shop and we’ll take a look.

TRANSMISSION FAILURE

Transmission failure is never something you want to have to deal with. Transmissions are important parts of your vehicle, and their function is critical to everything you want to do with your Accord. Unfortunately, one of the realities of owning an Accord is that they are known for transmission failure, and both transmission rebuilds and outright replacements are fairly common. That means that it’s especially important to get regular transmission checks, flush and fill services, and work with a mechanic that can diagnose and treat transmission problems early. In the case that you do need a rebuild or a replacement, your mechanic should carefully diagnose the problem and talk with you about options so you can decide which repair is right for you and your Accord.

FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH

If your ignition switch isn’t working neither, is your vehicle. It’s as simple as that. Thankfully this isn’t a problem that will cause issues on the road unless you accidentally kill the engine and can’t start again. Unfortunately, this is a known issue and there has even been a recall on Accord ignition switches, which means that if yours hasn’t already been replaced it probably should be. The problem is that the replacements aren’t a fool-proof fix, so there’s always some chance that your ignition switch is going to go bad and need a repair. Fortunately, the part is relatively cheap, so it’s not as expensive as other common issues.

DEAD BATTERY

Dead batteries are a common problem for most vehicles. Replacing the battery is an easy repair, but it’s important to go to a mechanic to make sure the battery is the problem. Dead batteries can be the result of alternator problems, wiring issues, and other harder-to-find issues. Your mechanic can both evaluate the battery to see if a recharge is an option and look for other potential issues so that your new battery lasts longer than the first. Still, Accord owners need to know that their batteries will probably need to be replaced every few years, just like any vehicle.

POWER STEERING WHINE

This is one problem that seems to be more unique to the Accord specifically, as well as a few other Honda models, though it’s less common in the other models. There are a few possible causes, but some of the most common issues are O-ring problems and power steering fluid problems. While fixable, a whine while you’re steering is a sign that you need to get your vehicle to a mechanic as soon as possible because it probably means that there’s a lot of unnecessary strain on the system, and all that strain can morph into other more serious or harder to repair problems.

PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR

Premature rear brake wear is another common Accord problem, unfortunately, the problem isn’t necessarily fixable so much as it’s something you need to monitor and stay on top of. This is because the uneven and premature wear on the rear brakes is likely due to two Accord problems, brake pads that are slightly too small for the vehicle, and an electric braking system that puts too much pressure on those same brake pads. Since those aren’t things your mechanic can change, the best option is to get regular brake checks so you know if it’s happening to your Accord and can stay on top of it before the issue causes additional damage.
