BMW X5 REPAIR SERVICES
X5
An X5 that shudders through a parking-space turn can need tire or transfer-case work even with no warning on the dash. A low battery message can call for charging rather than immediate replacement. We diagnose and repair these problems at Precision Auto Care in San Leandro.
Our X5 services include engine and drivetrain repair. We also work on brakes and batteries, with scheduled maintenance for gasoline models.

Major Tune-Up
We change engine oil and replace spark plugs using the specifications for your gasoline X5's engine. We also check belts, hoses and tires. Tire rotation depends on their arrangement: different front and rear sizes cannot simply exchange positions. When an imbalance is causing vibration, we balance the tires so the wheels can turn smoothly.
Brake Replacement
A pulse through the brake pedal needs more than a look at pad thickness. Variations in the disc surface can change the contact each time it turns, even with plenty of friction material left. We inspect the pads and measure the rotors before replacing worn brake parts. When a rotor has reached its service limit, replacement is necessary for the new pads to have a sound surface. A brake-system warning or reduced stopping ability calls for stopping safely and arranging assistance.
XDRIVE SHUDDER DURING A SLOW TURN
A shudder during a slow turn can start at the tires on affected xDrive models, including G05 X5 and F95 X5 M versions. Incorrect tire sizes or severe uneven wear can interfere with the all-wheel-drive system's operation. Transfer-case oil that doesn't meet the required specification is another possible cause. We check the tires and drivetrain to find where the shudder starts. If the checks point to the transfer case, the work may be limited to the specified oil and calibration.
OIL LEAKS AND BURNING SMELLS
A burning-oil smell at a stop can come from oil reaching hot exhaust parts. On engines where a leaking valve-cover gasket lets oil collect in the spark-plug wells, the leak can also damage ignition coils and cause a misfire. We repair engine oil leaks and affected ignition parts. A coil replacement alone leaves the new component sitting in the same leaking well.
COOLANT LOSS AND OVERHEATING
Coolant can leak from a hose connection or pump seal. Engine temperature can also climb when coolant isn't circulating properly, even without a large external leak. We check the cooling system fitted to your X5, including its pump and thermostat. If an overheating warning appears, stop safely and shut off the engine. Continued running can damage it.
BATTERY WARNINGS AND REPLACEMENT
We check batteries and charging faults. A low battery message can come from a discharged battery that is still usable. On 2014-2018 X5 models from the F15 generation, onboard battery diagnostics help us distinguish low charge from a battery that has deteriorated. Recharging and checking again helps determine whether replacement is needed. We also record the battery replacement in the vehicle's diagnostic system, a step called registration.
LOSS OF HEIGHT WITH AIR SUSPENSION
One corner of an air-suspension-equipped X5 can sit lower when air escapes from the system. The compressor has to replenish that lost air, and continued operation against a leak can cause overheating and failure. We check the air springs and their connections when repairing the suspension. If the X5 rises again as the compressor runs, the system may still be losing air. We look for that leak before replacing a compressor that has been working to make up the loss.
Another concerning issue is the malfunctioning and sometimes spontaneous shattering of the sunroof. Owners have reported cases where the sunroof opens or closes without any triggering and, in rare instances, shatters unexpectedly.
